Dr. Shifa Shamsudeen

After completing her Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery in 2006, Dr. Shifa chose her Masters in Preventive and Pediatric Dentistry, completing it in 2009. She worked with leading corporate dental centers and explored removable myofunctional appliances in children. In 2012, she started her own practice in Coimbatore — WE Little — beginning with understanding the role of epigenetics in crooked teeth and its prevention. In 2013 she visited Myofunctional Research and Co., Australia for deeper understanding of myofunctional therapy. Having seen over 350 cases by then, she began setting her own protocols customized to children by 2015. She was a part of the teaching profession alongside clinical practice for 9 years until 2018, and presented at IAOM conferences from 2017 onwards. In 2017 she was certified at the Tongue Tie Institute, Australia, and became a member of IAOM. In 2019 she completed a Mini-Residency in Pediatric Sleep at Tufts University, Boston, and in 2020 a Fellowship in Dental Sleep Medicine at Tufts. She spoke at India’s first Airway conference organized by ICCMO in 2020 on pediatric airway and sleep. She is a member of AADSM, ICAP, and ICCMO. In 2020 she initiated the non-profit Tongue Foundation. Over a decade of conservative, non-invasive preventive practice with over 4,050 children led her to create awareness on pediatric sleep. In 2021 she opened India’s first preventive pediatric dental center in Chennai, became the country’s first pediatric dentist to pass the American Boards of Dental Sleep Medicine, and founded the Institute of Craniofacial Myology and Pediatric Sleep to train professionals in Myoline and Pediatric Sleep.
